Improvement Era: He-Man Smokers By The Fireside

The first of these two graphics is a delightful little blurb for Young Men regarding smokers.  It summarizes a study that says smoking is associated with “weakness in the masculine component,” presumably a euphemism seemingly not understood by Dr. Harris.

And fortune cookies apparently required their eaters to match a number to a fortune on the bag!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This second graphic is a beautiful contrast to the above.   A classic illustration of the quality of modern-pop graphic art of that era, the invitation probably had more going for it than the Fireside itself.
